Who we are

Suzannah Depasquale

Suzannah Depasquale is an archaeologist, museologist, curator and specialist in heritage management and funding programmes. Suzannah graduated B.A. in Archaeology and History of art; she pursued post-graduate studies in Museology with the University of Leicester, with a research interest in the accessibility of museums and sites.

In the course of twenty years’ experience in curatorial work with the National Museum of Archaeology and Heritage Malta, Suzannah has planned a number of temporary and permanent exhibitions nationally and overseas and has curated the national archaeological collection. She has worked on projects of National and World Heritage site importance, with respect to their rehabilitation, conservation, accessibility, while successfully seeking major and managing funding for such projects. She has worked on the creation of strategic documents, national legislation, the development of standard operating procedures as well as national policies related to heritage management for rural and urban sites. A founding member of ICOM-Malta, Suzannah has led a number of public programmes and has been instrumental in making sites accessible for individuals with special needs.


Theresa Vella

Dr Theresa Vella is an art historian, museologist, author and lecturer. Theresa first graduated B.A. in History of Art and Communications Studies at the University of Malta, and followed postgraduate studies at the International Institute of Baroque Studies. She obtained a doctorate in History of Art at the University of Bristol, UK with her thesis on The Paintings of the Order of St John in Malta: Hospitaller art collections and patronage from the late fifteenth century to the eighteenth century.  She lectures in the History of Painting and Sculpture, Museology and Heritage Studies at the University of Malta.  Her publications range from monographs on artists to studies on art collections.

Theresa has over twenty years’ experience of curatorial work with the National Museum of Fine Arts and Heritage Malta, including the curatorship of the national art collection. Most recently she was engaged in the regeneration of the Grand Masters’ Palace in Valletta. A founding member of ICOM-Malta, Theresa was also a board member of ICOM-Europe and ICOM – ICFA (International Council of Fine Arts). She is currently also a committee member of the Malta Historical Society.
